Sharing Yan’s passion for flowers

Dahlia competition at Parc Floral of Paris August 24, 2010

The Parc Floral is located in the east of Paris, in the Bois de Vincennes, one of the 2 artificial forests at the gate of Paris.

Currently there is a competition of Dahlia flowers in the Park. This is a tradition of the Park since 1992.  I’d like to share some pictures with you.

Which one do you prefer? You can go and vote for your favorite variety until late September.

Spring wild flowers in Paris Suburbs April 20, 2010

Paris is surrounded by forests and fields. The nature is never very far from the city. In one hour, we can have a completely different landscape.

The past weekend I walked in the forest of Val d’Oise, a community at 60 km to the West of Paris. The spring comes later there than in Paris, but a lot of wild flowers were already blossoming. Here are some pictures to share with you.

My flower book (11) : Berries October 11, 2009

Many hedge plants have berries in Autumn. From my stroll along by the Seine River near Neuilly in Paris, I picked up a bundle of branches with all colors of berries which I’ve made a bouquet with.

Fruits can be as colorful as flowers, and they are the extension of flower’s life. The nature is a wonderful cycle.

Bouquets Calendar 2010 September 18, 2009

Orsay is my favorite museum in Paris, because most of the impressionists’ works are there. Thursday evening – during the late-night opening – is my favorite moment to go to see for the nth time Monet, Van-Gogh, Manet, Renoir, Degas and others.

Yesterday from my “la nuit au musée”, I’ve found a beautiful calendar for the year 2010. It’s made up of 12 still-life paintings of bouquets that I dream of.

So I’ve given myself a objectif : to reproduce the same bouquet in the paintings each month of next year !

My flower book (6) August 1, 2009

This is a sweet-colored and scented bouquet in a 18th century style vase. I found this vase in a secondhand trade shop in a suburb of Paris. Althouth we can’t see it on the picture, the vase has 5 holes  which make the flower arrangement easier.

“Flower” means plant or vegetative for me, which includes flowers, leaves,  branches and even vegetables. In the nature, all can be beautiful, even the most ordinary things.

Here are pictures of garlic and lettuce taken in a morning market in Paris. I like their coulours, so smooth and juicy.

Liberty in the spring April 25, 2009

This spring is definitely flower.

The French fashion label Cacharel, which earned its reputation for the floral print cotton shirts and dresses “Liberty” in the 1970’s, produced a re-edited collection for the label’s 50’s anniversary. The collection is composed of cute english dresses, scarfs, blouses and bloomers, stuffed bunnies, keyrings and Nike Blazers.

There is a concept store in Paris dedicated to the collection only during a few months, until late May (21 rue d’Uzès, 75002 Paris).

The charm of flowers will never die…
