Sharing Yan’s passion for flowers

The language of flowers April 2, 2012

France La Poste released a series of stamps with the languages of flowers.

Although today nobody offers flowers according to their language (except for some most symbolic ones such as Rose, chrysanthemum, Lily of the Valley, etc.), and I am the first to buy flowers just for their natural beauty, I  also believe that a flower and the gesture of offering a flower would become more meaningful if we try to compose a message with them.

Arum Lily: Ardour

Tulip: Love

Rose: Passion

Violet: Modesty

Pansy: Affection

Lily of the Valley: Happiness

Iris: Tenderness

Dahlia: Admiration

Poppy: Delight

Peony: Generosity

Daisy: Attraction

Carnation: Loyalty

Dahlia at Parc Floral Paris: 2 weeks later September 18, 2010

I returned to Parc Floral of Paris 2 weeks after my last post on Dahlia competition. The flowers bloomed better than 2 weeks ago and it was really difficult to say which one I prefered. However, I think my favorite ones are those which have a pompom shape.

By the way, I took these pictures with my new camera, SONY NEX 5, the most compact bridge camera which just came out. I’m quite satisfied with it, although I didn’t take the pictures with a macro lens for close-up views, they are quite clean-cut and the colors are beautiful for a very sunny day.

Dahlia competition at Parc Floral of Paris August 24, 2010

The Parc Floral is located in the east of Paris, in the Bois de Vincennes, one of the 2 artificial forests at the gate of Paris.

Currently there is a competition of Dahlia flowers in the Park. This is a tradition of the Park since 1992.  I’d like to share some pictures with you.

Which one do you prefer? You can go and vote for your favorite variety until late September.

Alps mountain flowers August 18, 2009

I passed the weekend of 15th August, which is a holiday in France, in a small Swiss village in the Alps Mountains, just beside the Lake Geneva. This was not the first time I’ve been to this area but the first time in August. The nature was scenic, the weather was mild…It was very difficult to come back to Paris and go to work.

A Swiss farmer had planted flowers in his garden and at the moment when I passed, he made his garden a “self-service flower market” where you can pick flowers yourself. The Dahlias were so beautiful under the blue sky.

At the Furka Pass in the Alps, at 2500 meters of altitude, the mild flowers were very colorful thanks to the sunshine.
