Sharing Yan’s passion for flowers

The language of flowers April 2, 2012

France La Poste released a series of stamps with the languages of flowers.

Although today nobody offers flowers according to their language (except for some most symbolic ones such as Rose, chrysanthemum, Lily of the Valley, etc.), and I am the first to buy flowers just for their natural beauty, I  also believe that a flower and the gesture of offering a flower would become more meaningful if we try to compose a message with them.

Arum Lily: Ardour

Tulip: Love

Rose: Passion

Violet: Modesty

Pansy: Affection

Lily of the Valley: Happiness

Iris: Tenderness

Dahlia: Admiration

Poppy: Delight

Peony: Generosity

Daisy: Attraction

Carnation: Loyalty

I guess the small white flowers must be very delicious. During the 15 minutes I watched him, the horse never raised his head!

Spring wild flowers in Paris Suburbs April 20, 2010

Paris is surrounded by forests and fields. The nature is never very far from the city. In one hour, we can have a completely different landscape.

The past weekend I walked in the forest of Val d’Oise, a community at 60 km to the West of Paris. The spring comes later there than in Paris, but a lot of wild flowers were already blossoming. Here are some pictures to share with you.

French Flora Stamps July 18, 2009

The French Post  has edited two books of stamps about French Flora in the North and the South. Indeed, the vegetation in the North and the South of France is very diffrent. Each region of France has its representative plant, like the famous lavender for Provence.

France has a very beautiful nature, although it is less famous than its culture and art. To my knowledge, France is the greenest European country (apart from Scandinavian countries). You can see almost every landscape in France : mountains, plateau, the sea, rivers, lakes (maybe not desert…).

I’d like to thank Tempopo who sent me images of these stamps books that I share with you.

ITIS Gallery June 24, 2009

The name of “ITIS Gallery” appeared with Christian Tortu when I searched in Google.

It is a Ukrainian lifestyle concept store (let’s call it like that, since “concept stores” are in vague in these days) which offers “not just a collection of interior items, but a special quality of life, individual style.” But this has nothing to do with Tortu, of course.

The famous French florist works with the gallery for their floristic division launched since 2005. “ITIS Gallery Home of Flowers is a unique brand in Ukrainian floristic market which represents well-defined style following well-famous French floristic school.” (I thought that the most famous floral art schools were in Holland…)

Any way, I find the idea interesting. Flowers and bouquets are bound to decorate interiors, and it is so natural to demonstrate flowers with furniture and design objects. Design and floral art, each improves the standing of the other. High end florist brands are rare even in a big capital like Paris, and there is only one Christian Tortu. I can imagine how the gallery is perceived in Ukraine as a prestigious French style place.

Besides, they edit also a lifestyle magazine called “Ya”, which can be qualified as “editorial communication” tool. It is also a way to promote Western European lifestyle, to educate consumers and to expand the brand’s name.

A good idea is 50% of the success.
